No one to blame but myself
Thursday, November 15, 2007 – byI KNOW I am going to regret raising this but why the complete aversion to hyphenating no one in the (very useful) style guide.
Aren’t there circumstances where it adds clarity to a sentence? For example: “No one was to blame” - the blame could not be attributed to any one individual - as opposed to “No-one was to blame” - it was nobody’s fault.
Many house style guides stipulate always to always hyphenate no-one, presumably for consistency.
Any comments?
